Scór na bPáistí 2020

Ballina GAA club will hold the Parish final of Scór na bPáistí in Boher Hall on Sunday February 16th 2020 at 2pm.

This is a great opportunity for children to get onstage and showcase their talents.

Children participating must be members of BALLINA GAA CLUB.
 
 Scor na bPaisti is a series of competitions for National School children organised by the GAA. It takes place in the first quarter of the year with progression through Parish, Area and Divisional finals to a County Final stage. There are individual and Group competitions and there is something for everyone.

Area Final 1 will take place in Newport on Sunday the 1st of March, commencing at 1pm. The following Clubs are invited to take part - Newport, Ballina, Portroe, Ballinahinch, Burgess, Killadangan, Kilruane McDonaghs, Borrisokane, Roscrea and Inane Rovers.

Those that come 1st and 2nd in each Area Final will progress to the A Final. Those that come 3rd and 4th in each Area Final will progress to the B Final.

The North A Final will take place in Portroe Sunday the 22nd  March, commencing at 2pm.
The North B Final will take place in Borrisoleigh Friday 13th March, commencing at 7.30pm
The County Scor na bPaisti Final is on Sunday the 5th of April.
 RULES for Individual Competitions
 
SCÓR THIOBRAID ÁRANN
Rialacha do Scór na bPáistí 2020
ELIGIBILITY
· Only primary school children are allowed to compete.
· Scór na nÓg divisional or county winners in a particular
competition will not be eligible to participate in that competition
at Scór na bPáistí level for that year.
 
RINCE SEIT ( SET DANCING )
· A set comprising of 8 persons, or a half set comprising of 4 persons, is allowed.
· Groups will dance only one figure of a traditional set.
· There are no marks awarded for march on / march off.
· Marks are allotted as follows :-
Standard of Footwork—25 marks
Timing—25 marks
Execution of Steps—20 marks
Carriage / Teamwork—20 marks
Traditional overall
Effect—10 marks
Total=100 marks

RINCE FÓIRNE ( FIGURE DANCING )
· Each group shall consist of not less than 4 and not more than 8 dancers.
· Dancers will dance only one body and one figure of the dance.
· There are no marks awarded for the dance on / dance off.
· Marks are allotted as follows :-
Timing—35 marks
Steps of Dance—35 marks
Carriage—20 marks
General Effect and Style—10 marks
Total=100 marks

AMHRÁNAÍOCHT AONAIR ( SOLO SINGING )
· Each competitor may sing only one song.
· The song must relate to Ireland-its history, people, places, folklore etc.
· A competitor may accompany himself or herself with a single musical
instrument or a competitor may be accompanied by one musician on stage.
· Marks are allotted as follows :-
Tonal Quality and Intonation—30 marks
Diction –20 marks
Phrasing—20 marks
Interpretation/Expression/Individuality—15 marks
Delivery of Song and General Impression—15 marks
Total=100 marks
 

AITHRISEOIREACHT / SCÉALAÍOCHT (RECITATION/STORYTELLING )
· The recitation / story / extract must relate to Ireland- its history,people, places, folklore etc.
· The recitation / story /extract must not exceed 4 minutes.
· The competitor may dress up if he / she wishes.
· The competitor should announce the name and author of the piece.
· Marks are allotted as follows :-
Dramatic Presence—40 marks
Elocution / Clarity—25 marks
Confidence / Sincerity—25 marks
Choice / Suitability—10 marks
Total = 100 marks

CEOL UIRLÍSE ( INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC )
· The competition is for groups of 3-5 people.
· Each group shall play only 2 Irish traditional tunes.
· The tunes are to be of a different character.
· A battery operated keyboard set only in piano mode is allowed.
· Marks are allotted as follows :-
Overall Musicianship—50 marks
Phrasing / Interpretation –15 marks
Style / Individuality / Presentation –15 marks
Balance and Teamwork—10 marks
Overall Impression—10 marks
Total =100 marks
 

SEAN-NÓS DANCING
· Dancers dance one dance.
· Dance must not exceed 2 minutes.
· Dancer may dance to reel, jig , hornpipe in this dance genre.
· No props can be used by the dancer.
· No tips ( fibreglass or nails ) are allowed on dancing shoes.
· Dancers should bring their own music-Maximum of one musician
allowed or else recorded music.
· Marks are allotted as follows:-
Timing /Rhythm—25 marks
Style / Variety—25 marks
Traditional character—25 marks
Execution of Steps—25 marks
Total =100 marks
 
TRÁTH na gCEIST ( QUESTION TIME )
· The competition is for teams of 4 people.
· All questions will be team questions.
· All answers will be written.
· All questions carry equal marks ( 4 marks each )
· Questions will be on ( 1 ) General Knowledge
( 2 ) G.A.A. ( 3 ) Irish History and Geography
· There will be a total of 30 questions ie. 10 questions
 on general knowledge, 10 on G.A.A. and 10 on Irish history and geography.
· GAA questions are confined to a period of ten years prior to the date of Quiz.
· There will be one question in each round as Gaeilge.
 

NUACHLEAS ( NOVELTY ACT )
· Each group shall consist of not less than 3 and not more than 8 persons.
· Act must not be more than 8 minutes.
· Only hand held props can be used on stage.
· The performance must relate to some aspect of Irish life-its history, people, places, sport, folklore etc.
· Music, song or dance may be used to enhance the performance.
· Marks are allotted as follows :-
Presentation and Acting –40 marks
Originality / Script and Production –35 marks
Entertainment Value –25 marks
Total = 100 marks
 
BAILÉAD GHRÚPA ( BALLAD GROUP )
· The competition is for 3-5 persons.
· Group will sing only one song.
· The ballad must relate to Ireland-its history, people, places, folklore etc.
· The number in the group playing instruments is limited to 3.
· Use of musical instruments is optional.
· Marks are allotted as follows :-
Diction—20 marks
Tonal Quality and Intonation—20 marks
Interpretation and Arrangement—20 marks
Sincerity, Conviction and teamwork—20 marks
Phrasing—10 marks
Overall Impression—10 marks
