Special Educiation needs
S.E.N. (Special Educational Needs) is provided by a dedicated and experienced team of Special Education Teachers (SETs). In our school we have 6 permanent members of staff SET. Muinteoir Yvonne is our SEN co-ordinator. SETs work with individual children or with small groups of children providing support. SETs also work in-class as team teachers. Educational support is only one aspect of SEN provision in the school, the social and emotional well-being of the pupils is also central to creating a positive learning environment in which all are included. Social groups are held for children from junior and senior classes and chess is also taught in the school. For those children who have been granted a laptop we provide time for them to become confident in navigating its use. We also offer a dyslexia pack which parents can avail of to help inform them regarding the complexities of dyslexia.
We are also fortunate to have 3 ASD classes in Ballina Primary School. A number of pupils in these classes are integrated on a daily basis into our mainstream class rooms. This provides great opportunities for inclusivity for all involved.
