Tipp Hurling Team Visit Ballina P.S.

On Tuesday the 24th September, members of the Tipperary Senior Hurling team came to visit Ballina Primary School with the Liam McCarthy Cup. Members of the U20 team, who also had national success this year, joined them.

After lunch that day, the pupils from seniors to sixth class gathered in the school hall. The players were welcomed at the main door with a guard of honor formed by junior infant pupils. The banna ceoil played and we sang as the players entered the school hall.
Paudi Maloney, the team coach spoke to us along with other members of the team. Paudi encouraged us to take up sport and to stay involved. Mikey Breen then spoke about his hurling career and gave us off homework that night. We were very grateful. When the speakers were finished all pupils came together to sing Slievenamon.  After this, we got the chance to ask some questions.
Charlie McGeever then took a large group photo of the players with the pupils. At 1.30pm the team left to visit St. Anne’s secondary school. When we returned to class, we were all given a signed poster.

The whole school were delighted that the Tipp players came to visit. It was a great experience for all and we look forward to seeing them again.
